Teaching English

In every country I lived in a big part of the ministry was teaching English. Learning English was an essential part of the children’s education because English is viewed as a World Language, so to succeed and break the generational cycles of poverty and unemployment, becoming fluent becomes a necessity.
I worked with all age groups on the Race:
First & third graders and adults in Cambodia.
Grades k-12 in Thailand and one-on-one tutoring with a woman in her thirties.
Ages 11-14 in Malawi and elementary schoolers in Guatemala.
Teaching English in a foreign country equipped me with the skills necessary to work closely with people where there is a huge language barrier. You have to become efficient in quick and creative thinking to teach a language to people when they can’t understand a word that you’re saying and you can’t understand a word that they are saying.
This taught me how to be open and understanding with different cultures and backgrounds. To be patient and surrender everything I view as “correct” and come along side people and teach and encourage them right where they are at, at any age and stage of life.
